Conditions we treat

From acute pain to long-term rehab.

Most people booking physio fall into one of a few groups: a fresh injury that won't settle, a long-running pain that's stopping you doing what you love, post-surgical recovery, or a desk-job posture issue that's slowly built up. We see all of these and more.

Back & neck pain

Lower back pain, neck stiffness, sciatica, postural pain from desk work, recurrent flare-ups. Manual therapy, exercise prescription and ergonomic advice typically deliver meaningful change in 2–6 sessions.

Shoulder problems

Rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), impingement, post-dislocation rehab, shoulder bursitis. Combination of mobilisation, strengthening and graded exposure to movement.

Knee & hip pain

Osteoarthritis management, runner's knee (patellofemoral pain), iliotibial band syndrome, post-meniscal repair, hip impingement, return-to-sport rehab. Strengthening and movement re-patterning.

Sports injuries

Acute soft-tissue injuries (sprains, strains), tendinopathies (achilles, patellar, tennis/golfer's elbow), post-fracture mobilisation, return-to-sport planning. Graded loading and sport-specific rehab.

Post-surgical rehab

After joint replacement, ACL reconstruction, shoulder surgery, spinal surgery or other orthopaedic procedures — structured rehab from early mobilisation through to return to full activity. We work alongside your surgical team.

Office & postural issues

Repetitive strain (wrist, forearm, neck), tension headaches from desk work, mid-back stiffness, hip and hamstring tightness from prolonged sitting. Manual therapy, mobility work and workplace ergonomics.

Persistent & chronic pain

Pain that's been going on for months or years and hasn't responded to other approaches. Honest framing: chronic pain often needs a multidisciplinary approach, but a structured physio plan is usually a useful part of it.

Headaches with neck origin

Cervicogenic headaches — headaches that come from the upper neck rather than primary migraine or tension headache. Mobilisation of the upper cervical spine and targeted strengthening often helps when the pattern fits.

What we don't do here

Some conditions need a hospital setting or specialist clinic. We refer onward for: spinal surgical opinions; orthopaedic surgical opinions (we can write to a private or NHS consultant with our assessment); specialist pain management clinics for complex chronic pain; hydrotherapy pools; neurological rehab after stroke or brain injury (needs specialised neuro-physio services). Where appropriate we'll suggest the right pathway in your assessment.

What to expect

A clear plan from your first session.

Physio works better when it's structured. Here's what happens from the first appointment onward.

  1. 01

    Initial assessment (60 min)

A detailed conversation about your symptoms and goals, followed by a physical examination — range of movement, strength testing, special tests for specific structures, posture and movement assessment. You'll leave with a working diagnosis, a treatment plan, and an estimate of how many sessions are likely needed.

  2. 02

    Hands-on treatment + home programme

Treatment typically combines manual therapy (mobilisation, soft-tissue work) with prescribed exercises you'll do between sessions. The exercises are the part that actually moves the needle — we'll write them up clearly with the dose, frequency and progressions, often with photos or video.

  3. 03

    Follow-up sessions (30 min)

Progress is reviewed, exercises are adjusted, treatment is refined. Most musculoskeletal problems improve meaningfully in 2–6 sessions; some need longer for chronic or complex cases. We'll be honest if we don't think more sessions will help.

  4. 04

    Discharge with a maintenance plan

When you've reached your goals, we discharge you with a maintenance programme — exercises and movement habits to keep the problem from coming back. Open-door return policy if symptoms recur.

Honesty about what physio can't fix

Not every problem responds to physiotherapy. If you have a serious structural injury that needs surgery, advanced osteoarthritis that needs joint replacement, or a condition outside our scope, we'll say so and refer you. Wasting your time and money on sessions that won't help isn't good practice.

Common questions

Before you book.

Do I need a GP referral?

No — physiotherapists are autonomous clinicians and you can self-refer. If you have an MRI report, X-rays, or previous physio notes, please bring them or send them ahead by email — they save time at the first session.

If you intend to claim on private medical insurance, your insurer may require a GP referral letter for pre-authorisation. Check your policy.

How many sessions will I need?

The honest answer is "it depends" — on the condition, how long it's been going on, your starting fitness, and how consistently you do the home exercises. Most acute musculoskeletal problems improve meaningfully in 2–6 sessions. Longstanding or complex problems may take longer. We'll give you an estimate at the first assessment and review at each follow-up. We won't recommend more sessions than we think are useful.

What should I wear?

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes you can move in. For lower-body problems (knee, hip, lower back, ankle), shorts or loose trousers that can be rolled up are best. For shoulder or upper-back issues, a strappy top or t-shirt. We have privacy gowns available if needed.

Does physio hurt?

Some treatment can be uncomfortable — deep soft-tissue work or mobilising a stiff joint may not feel pleasant in the moment — but it shouldn't be sharply painful. Your physiotherapist will communicate throughout and adjust to a tolerable level. You may have some next-day soreness similar to after exercise; that usually settles within 24–48 hours.

If at any point treatment feels wrong or significantly worsens your symptoms, tell us — we'll adjust the approach.

Will I be given exercises to do at home?

Yes — almost always. Home exercises do most of the work; the in-clinic session is where we assess, treat acutely, and progress the programme. We try to keep prescribed exercises realistic — usually 10–15 minutes a day, two or three exercises at a time. Doing the exercises consistently is the single biggest predictor of how quickly you'll recover.

Can you treat me if I'm pregnant?

For common pregnancy-related musculoskeletal issues (lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain, postural pain), yes — physiotherapy is safe and helpful in pregnancy and we'll adapt techniques and positioning accordingly. Mention pregnancy at booking so the session is set up for you.

For specialist women's health physiotherapy (pelvic floor rehab, post-natal recovery, diastasis recti work), we'd typically refer to a specialist women's health physiotherapist with that specific training. We can discuss the pathway at consultation.

Do you treat children?

We see older children (typically 14+) for sports injuries and adolescent musculoskeletal issues with parental consent and a parent present. For younger children or for paediatric-specific conditions (developmental issues, congenital musculoskeletal problems), specialist paediatric physiotherapy is the right setting — we'd refer.

Do you offer home visits?

Not as a standard service. Some private physiotherapists in London do home visits; if mobility makes coming to the clinic difficult, call 020 7916 0029 and we can discuss options — either signposting to a home-visit provider, or working out whether an initial home visit could transition to clinic-based follow-ups.

How quickly can I be seen?

Most physiotherapy appointments are available within the same week. For acute injuries (especially sports injuries in the first 72 hours), we'll try to fit you in sooner — call us. Booking online via the booking portal shows live availability.

What if physio doesn't help me?

If after 3–4 sessions we're not seeing the progress we'd expect, we'll have an honest conversation about why — could be the diagnosis needs revisiting (imaging? specialist opinion?), could be the treatment approach needs to change, could be that physio isn't the right answer for your specific problem. We'd rather refer you onward (to a GP, orthopaedic consultant, pain clinic) than keep taking your money for sessions that aren't working.
