Why patients come to us

The NHS waitlist isn't a wait — it's a queue with no end in sight.

Right To Choose pathways are quoted at 2–3 years. Most NHS Trusts are quoting 5–7 years for new adult ADHD assessments — some have paused referrals entirely. For children, the picture is similar. Years of your life, your career, your education, your relationships — on hold.

We're not here to replace the NHS. We're here for people who can't afford to wait while it catches up.

What's involved

A proper assessment. In three stages.

Real diagnostic pathways follow NICE guidance — structured clinical interview, validated rating scales, collateral history, and a written report. Not a 20-minute online tick-box. Not a "diagnosis-in-a-day" service the NHS won't recognise.

  1. Stage 01 45 minutes

    Initial screening consultation

A 45-minute video or in-person consultation with our psychiatrist or clinical psychologist. We review your history, current concerns and screening questionnaires you complete beforehand. By the end you'll know whether a full assessment is the right next step.

    • Pre-assessment screening questionnaires
    • History and presenting concerns review
    • Clinical opinion on next steps
    • Honest answer: assessment, watchful waiting, or other route
  2. Stage 03 60 minutes

    Treatment initiation & titration

If diagnosed with ADHD and you choose medication, this is the start. Our psychiatrist explains options, contraindications and side-effect profiles, then issues the first prescription. Titration appointments follow until you're on the right medication and dose.

    • Medication options, risks & alternatives discussion
    • First prescription issued (private)
    • Titration appointments to optimise dose
    • Onward referral to psychology or coaching if non-medication route preferred
Transparent pricing

All fees on our price list.

Full pricing for all consultations, procedures and reports is published on our price list. We do not charge separate appointment fees on top of quoted prices, and all costs are confirmed before any test, procedure or report is started.

Before you book, the hard truth

NHS shared care: not guaranteed.

This is the single most important thing to understand before booking a private ADHD assessment anywhere — ours or anyone else's. We'll be straight with you.

The reality in 2026

Most NHS Trusts and ICBs are refusing to accept shared care agreements from any private ADHD provider — including ours. This is a national policy stance, not a comment on the quality of private diagnoses. It means after a private diagnosis, your NHS GP will likely not take over your prescription.

What this means in practice

You'll continue paying privately for follow-up reviews (typically every six months) and for medication itself (private treatment costs vary by drug). We'll quote you the realistic annual cost upfront so you can decide.

What we will do

We write to your NHS GP with your consent. Some GPs and some ICBs do accept shared care — it's worth asking yours. We'll provide everything they need to make the decision. If they say yes, you transition to NHS. If they say no, you stay private with us — and we keep prices fair.

If you can't afford ongoing private care

Be honest with yourself before booking Stage 2. Private ADHD pathways involve ongoing costs — assessment, follow-up reviews and private medication — that we'll outline transparently at consultation. If those ongoing costs are out of reach, the NHS pathway (including Right To Choose, which you can pursue independently with your NHS GP) may be the better choice. We don’t operate Right To Choose ourselves — but we’ll be honest with you at Stage 1 if it sounds like a better fit for your situation.

How we compare

Three other ways — why we exist.

Option A

The NHS pathway

5–7 year wait

Free. Thorough. But practically inaccessible in 2026 for most adults. Right To Choose (a separate NHS scheme accessed via your NHS GP) can shorten it to 2–3 years if you push for it. The right choice if you can afford to wait.

Option B

"Diagnosis in a day" online services

Lower-cost online providers

Fast and cheap, but NHS GPs and many private GPs will not accept their reports for shared care or onward referral. The diagnosis may not stand up in employment or educational settings.

Option C

Harley Street clinics

Premium Harley Street range

Excellent quality but premium-priced. Most use the same NICE-compliant pathway we do. The location costs are passed to you.

MHW Clinic

NICE-compliant assessment, fair pricing

Whitechapel postcode, Harley Street standards. Same diagnostic process, same validated tools, same medication protocols — without the W1 mark-up. UK-registered psychiatrist and clinical psychologists on staff.

Common questions

Before you book.

How long is the wait for my first appointment?

Typically one week for the Stage 1 initial screening. The full diagnostic process (Stage 2 + written report) is completed within 4–6 weeks of Stage 1. We'll confirm exact dates when you book.

Is the assessment NICE-compliant?

Yes. Our pathway follows NICE guidance (NG87 for ADHD, CG142 for autism) and uses internationally validated assessment tools — DIVA-5 and CAARS for ADHD, ADOS-2 and ADI-R for autism, alongside collateral history and clinical interview. This is the same standard the NHS uses.

Will my NHS GP accept your diagnosis and take over my prescription?

Usually not, in 2026. Most NHS Trusts and ICBs are not accepting shared care agreements from private ADHD providers. This is national policy — not a reflection of our diagnosis quality. Some GPs and some areas still accept; it's always worth asking yours. We provide a comprehensive report your GP can review. If they decline shared care, you continue with us privately for follow-up reviews and prescriptions.

What's the real cost over a year?

Adult ADHD with therapy, year one: includes all assessment stages, two follow-up reviews, and 12 months of private treatments (medication itself varies by drug).

Year two onwards: two follow-ups plus medication. No further assessment fees.

Adult autism: typically a one-off assessment fee with no ongoing medication. Onward therapy or coaching is separate.

If these numbers are not affordable for you over the long term, please tell us at Stage 1 — we’ll be honest about whether the NHS pathway (including Right To Choose, which you arrange through your NHS GP) might suit you better. We don’t operate Right To Choose ourselves.

Can children be assessed here too?

Yes — we assess children and adolescents (typically aged 6–17) for both ADHD and autism. Paediatric assessments are led by our clinical psychologists with input from psychiatry where medication is being considered. Reports are written in formats accepted by schools and SENCOs for educational support purposes.

Can I have the assessment online by video?

We strongly prefer in-person assessment, particularly Stage 2, because some elements of the clinical interview (especially for autism) are harder to do well remotely. Stage 1 screening can be done by video on request. If you cannot travel to London, get in touch and we'll discuss what's possible.

Does my insurance cover ADHD or autism assessment?

Some private medical insurance plans cover ADHD or autism diagnostic assessment — coverage varies hugely by insurer and policy tier. Bupa, AXA Health and Vitality sometimes cover the diagnostic assessment but rarely cover ongoing treatment management. Always pre-authorise with your insurer before booking and ask specifically about both the assessment and ongoing follow-ups.

I think I might have ADHD/autism but I'm not sure. Should I book?

Yes, start with the Stage 1 initial screening. That's what it's for. You'll get an honest clinical opinion about whether full assessment is warranted — and if it isn't, what else might explain your experience. Stage 1 is non-committal: many patients leave reassured that what they're describing is not ADHD or autism, and that's a useful answer too.

What if you find I do have ADHD and I don't want medication?

That's a valid choice and a common one. Medication isn't the only path. We can refer you to our in-house psychologists for therapy and coaching (Stage 3 is skipped). Behavioural strategies, cognitive coaching and lifestyle changes have strong evidence and many adults manage well without medication once they understand their diagnosis.

Stop waiting

Start with the screening.

One appointment, one honest conversation, one clear next step. Refundable peace of mind if assessment isn't right for you.
