The case for screening

Most serious conditions don't announce themselves.

High blood pressure, raised cholesterol, early diabetes, kidney decline, thyroid dysfunction, prostate change, vitamin deficiency — they sit quietly for years before anything goes wrong. A Health MOT is the simplest, fastest way to catch them while they're still easy to fix.

01

Catch problems early

Most cardiovascular, metabolic and hormonal conditions have a silent window of 5–15 years before symptoms appear. Finding them then makes them easy to reverse, not just manage.

02

Baseline your numbers

Your "normal" is unique. Comparing this year's bloods to last year's tells your doctor far more than any single reading. We keep your records for next year's review.

03

Settle the worry

The biggest reason patients put off a check-up is fear of what they'll find. Most leave reassured. The ones who do find something are glad they didn't wait.

04

Make a plan that's actually personal

Generic health advice is useless. Your bloods, your family history, your goals — together with a doctor who has time to listen — produce a plan you'll actually follow.

An honest note: screening doesn't replace symptom-driven care. If something feels wrong, see a doctor — don't wait for a Health MOT. And no single test is perfect; we'll always explain what a result does and doesn't mean.

Transparent pricing

All fees on our price list.

Full pricing for all consultations, procedures and reports is published on our price list. We do not charge separate appointment fees on top of quoted prices, and all costs are confirmed before any test, procedure or report is started.

How it works

One visit. Everything sorted.

No fragmented appointments, no waiting weeks for results, no separate booking for the consultation. The whole thing happens in 60–90 minutes with the same doctor.

  1. 01

    Book & fast

Book online or by phone. We'll send a short pre-visit questionnaire and ask you to fast for 8–12 hours before (water is fine). Most patients book within a week.

  2. 02

    Tests on site

Bloods taken first by our nurses, then ECG and vital signs. While samples go to The Doctors Laboratory, you have a hot drink in our lounge.

  3. 03

    Doctor consultation

20–45 minutes with a GMC-registered GP — full history, examination, results interpretation. Honest answers to every question. No clock-watching.

  4. 04

    Your plan, in writing

Comprehensive & Executive patients get a written report within 24 hours. Executive adds a personalised lifestyle plan and a 3-month follow-up call.

What you take home

A written report. Plain English.

Comprehensive and Executive patients receive a written report within 24 hours of their visit. Not a wall of biomarker codes — a properly written summary of what we found, what's normal, what isn't, and what to do about it.

  • Doctor's summary in plain English
  • Every test result with reference range
  • Clear next steps and recommendations
  • Referral letters where needed
  • Sent to your NHS GP with your consent
  • Stored securely for next year's review
Common questions

Before you book.

Which tier is right for me?

Essential — if you're under 40, asymptomatic, and just want a baseline. Covers the cardiovascular, metabolic, kidney, liver and thyroid core.

Comprehensive — the right choice for most adults over 40, anyone with family history of heart disease or diabetes, or anyone who wants a proper annual review with a written report.

Executive — thorough screening for senior executives, the highly health-conscious, or anyone wanting the most complete view including hormones, advanced cardio markers and abdominal ultrasound.

If you're unsure, call us — reception can ask a couple of questions and recommend the right tier.

Do I need to fast beforehand?

Yes — please fast for 8–12 hours before your appointment. Water is fine. Avoid coffee, alcohol and food. Fasting gives us accurate glucose, insulin and lipid readings — without it those numbers are misleading. We recommend morning slots so you can eat breakfast straight after.

How long do results take?

The on-site results — ECG, BP, BMI, urinalysis, spirometry, ultrasound — are discussed in your consultation the same visit. Blood test results come back from The Doctors Laboratory within 24 hours. For Comprehensive and Executive tiers, your doctor sends a written summary within 24 hours of the lab returning results.

What happens if you find something?

Most findings are minor and addressed with lifestyle, supplements or a repeat test in a few months. If something genuinely needs onward investigation — further imaging, a specialist consultation, or NHS referral — your doctor arranges it during your visit and writes the referral letter that day. Anything genuinely urgent is dealt with immediately.

Does my insurance cover a Health MOT?

Many private medical insurance plans include an annual health assessment as a benefit — Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, Cigna and WPA all commonly cover this. Coverage varies by policy and tier. Always contact your insurer first and get pre-authorisation before booking. We'll provide an itemised invoice if you need to claim back.

Can I book a Health MOT for my team or family?

Yes — we run team and family screening days, particularly for City businesses and executive teams. Bulk pricing applies from 5+ bookings. See our corporate health page or email info@mhwclinic.co.uk for a tailored proposal.

I'm worried about a specific symptom — should I book a Health MOT or a GP appointment?

If you have a specific concern or symptom, book a private GP appointment instead — it's the right tool. A Health MOT is for asymptomatic screening: catching things before they become symptoms. The two pathways are different. If you're not sure, call reception — they'll help you choose.

Is it private — will it show on my NHS record?

Your visit is completely private. We share information with your NHS GP only with your written consent — we ask at the consultation. Most patients say yes because it helps with continuity of care, but it's entirely your choice. All records are stored under UK GDPR rules.
