What we treat

From skin tags to lipomas — all in one visit.

Everything we do on this page is a same-day, in-clinic procedure under local anaesthetic. You walk in, we treat, you walk out. Most patients are home within an hour of arriving.

Mole removal

Cosmetic or diagnostic. Shave excision for raised moles, full excision with sutures for any mole that needs histology. We never “just remove it” without sending the tissue for testing — that's how skin cancers get missed.

Simple / Standard tier

Skin tags & cryotherapy

Skin tags, warts, verrucae and benign sun spots treated with cryotherapy (controlled freezing) or excision. Quick, low-pain, no stitches needed for most.

Simple tier

Sebaceous cysts

Sebaceous (epidermoid) cysts removed with the cyst wall intact — the only way to prevent recurrence. We remove the whole capsule, suture cleanly, and send tissue for histology.

Standard / Complex tier

Lipoma excision

Soft fatty lumps under the skin — usually harmless but often uncomfortable or cosmetically unwelcome. Removed in full with the surrounding capsule. Histology routine.

Complex tier

Ingrown toenail surgery

Partial nail avulsion with phenolisation — the gold-standard procedure for recurring ingrown toenails. Walk in painful, walk out with the problem solved permanently in about 90% of cases.

Standard tier

Punch & excisional biopsy

For diagnostic sampling of skin lesions where a diagnosis is needed before deciding on full treatment. Performed under local anaesthetic, with histology results back in 7–10 days.

Simple / Standard tier

Ear lobe & pierce repair

Stretched, split or torn earlobes from heavy earrings or accidents — repaired with fine sutures for a clean cosmetic result. Often combined with re-piercing 6–8 weeks later.

Simple / Standard tier

Wound & foreign body removal

Suture removal, deep splinter or embedded object extraction, wound exploration and re-suturing where needed. Sterile, performed under local anaesthetic, same-day.

Simple tier

Looking for something not listed? Call us — we'll tell you straight whether we can do it, or refer you to the right specialist if not. We do not perform deep cosmetic surgery, breast surgery or anything requiring general anaesthetic — for that you need a hospital and a plastic surgeon, and we'll point you to one.

Where it happens

A proper treatment room. Not a GP office.

Our minor surgery treatment room is fitted to UK theatre-grade standards: surgical lighting, sterile field, autoclaved instruments, fully equipped resuscitation point. CQC-inspected and compliant. The same equipment standards you'd find in a small private hospital.

How it works

Walk in, treated, home.

For most simple procedures, the whole thing happens in one visit. For more complex cases or cases needing imaging first, we book a separate procedure day. You'll know which at the consultation.

  1. 01

    Walk-in or book

Walk into the clinic 9am–7pm any day, or book online for a guaranteed slot. Call us first if you want to confirm we can treat your specific issue same-day.

  2. 02

    Surgical consultation

Surgeon examines the lesion, explains the procedure, risks, expected scarring and aftercare. Gives you an exact quote upfront. You decide whether to proceed — nothing is started without your consent.

  3. 03

    The procedure

Local anaesthetic, sterile field, procedure performed by your surgeon. Most take 15–45 minutes. You're awake throughout, comfortable, and can ask questions as you go. Tissue is preserved for histology.

  4. 04

    Aftercare & results

Wound care instructions, dressings, suture removal appointment booked. Histology results back in 7–10 days — we contact you with a written summary regardless of result. Free follow-up if anything's not healing as expected.

How we compare

Why patients choose us.

Option A

NHS GP minor surgery

6–12 month wait

Most NHS practices have stopped doing cosmetic mole and skin tag removal entirely. For diagnostic biopsies you'll wait months for the dermatology referral pathway. Free if you can wait.

Option B

Cosmetic-only clinics

Online derm clinics

Walk-in cosmetic clinics often do mole and skin-tag removal without histology testing. Cheap, fast — and risky. If a removed mole was actually a melanoma, you'd never know until it spread.

Option C

Harley Street dermatology

Premium Harley Street range

Premium-priced, often two-visit (consultation, then procedure separately). High-quality but slow and expensive for what's a routine procedure for most people.

MHW Clinic

Surgeon-led, walk-in, histology included

Same day, see price list

Same-day surgical consultation and treatment, performed by a GMC-registered surgeon, in a proper treatment room. Every excision sent for histology. No two-visit nonsense for simple cases.

Common questions

Before you book.

Will it hurt?

The brief sting of the local anaesthetic injection is the only painful part of most procedures. Once the area is numb (usually within 60–90 seconds), you'll feel pressure and movement but no sharp pain. Most patients describe it as far less uncomfortable than a routine dental filling. Cryotherapy is mildly stingy for a few seconds, no anaesthetic needed.

Will I have a scar?

Honestly — yes, any excision leaves a scar. The question is how visible. Our surgeons use plastic-surgery suturing technique (fine sutures, careful tension, scar-aware orientation) which minimises scarring. Cryotherapy and skin tag removal usually leave no visible mark after healing. For larger excisions on visible areas, your surgeon will discuss expected scarring honestly before you proceed — including what good aftercare can do to improve healing.

Why do I need histology — can I skip it?

You can — for skin tags, very small benign moles or cosmetic-only procedures where the appearance is unambiguously benign. For any other mole, lesion or unusual lump, we strongly recommend histology. Skin cancers (basal cell, squamous cell, melanoma) can look identical to benign moles to the naked eye. The histology fee is what stands between "your mole was benign" and "your mole was a melanoma we caught in time." We won't pressure you, but we'll always recommend it for anything but the most obviously benign cases.

How long is recovery?

Most simple-tier procedures (cryotherapy, skin tags) need no real recovery — you go straight back to normal life. Standard-tier excisions and toenail surgery need 7–10 days of basic wound care: keep dry for 48 hours, keep clean, dressing changes. Complex-tier procedures (lipoma, large cyst) may need 2–3 weeks before strenuous exercise. Most patients return to office work the same day or next day.

Can I really walk in without booking?

Yes — for simple-tier procedures and most standard-tier cases. You'll be triaged at reception, then seen for a surgical consultation. If the procedure can be done same-day, it will be. For complex cases, or if the surgeon needs imaging or wants to plan a multi-stage approach, we'll book you a procedure day, usually within the same week. Calling ahead is faster but not required.

What about scars on my face or visible areas?

Facial and visible-site excisions go into our Complex tier specifically because they need plastic-surgery technique, careful planning of incision direction along skin tension lines, and the finest possible suturing. For procedures very near the eyes, lips or nose, our surgeon may refer you to an oculoplastic or plastic surgeon — we want you to have the best possible result, not the easiest possible procedure. We'll always tell you honestly whether we're the right place for it.

Does insurance cover minor surgery?

Insurance usually covers diagnostic procedures (suspicious mole removal with histology, biopsy of an unexplained lesion) but not purely cosmetic ones (skin tag removal because you don't like how it looks). Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, Cigna and WPA all work with us. Always pre-authorise with your insurer — tell them whether it's diagnostic or cosmetic — before booking.

What do you not do here?

Anything requiring general anaesthetic, hospital admission, deep cosmetic surgery, breast surgery, vascular surgery or paediatric surgery in very young children. We also don't perform any procedure where the safe outcome requires equipment we don't have. If your case is outside our scope, we'll refer you to a specialist who can help — honestly and quickly, with no obligation to come back to us.
