About Dr Radka Velitchkova

Paediatrics, consultant-led.

Dr Velitchkova is a UK GMC-registered Consultant Paediatrician on the Specialist Register for Paediatrics. She brings substantial NHS paediatric experience to her private practice at MHW Clinic, with a generalist's range across acute paediatrics and developmental concerns.

Parents see her for acute concerns such as fevers, respiratory illness, gastrointestinal symptoms, rashes, ear infections, suspected UTIs and growth concerns; for developmental queries such as milestones, sleep, feeding, behaviour; and for longer-term issues like asthma, eczema, allergy and chronic constipation.

Where consultant subspecialty input is needed — paediatric cardiology, neurology, complex allergy, gastroenterology, paediatric surgery — she refers to a trusted London panel. The clinic does not see acutely unwell children who need hospital-level care; we are clear about that boundary and signpost to the Royal London Hospital paediatric A&E where appropriate.

What they see

Clinical focus.

The range of work this clinician does at the clinic. Some appointments are routine; some sit at the boundary of where a specialist referral is needed, and we'll say so.

Acute paediatric illness

Fever assessment in children, respiratory infections (croup, bronchiolitis, asthma flares), gastrointestinal illness, ear infections, suspected UTIs, rashes. Same-day appointments where capacity allows; honest signposting to A&E for anything that needs hospital-level care.

Developmental concerns

Milestone queries, speech and language concerns, motor development, behaviour, sleep, feeding issues in infants and young children. Onward referral to community paediatrics, SALT or paediatric subspecialty where indicated.

Asthma, eczema & allergy

Childhood asthma diagnosis and management, eczema treatment, food allergy assessment (often with our allergy testing pathway), allergic rhinitis. Inhaler technique review, action plans, structured review.

Growth & feeding

Faltering growth assessment, feeding problems in infants, weaning concerns, fussy eating in older children, constipation (very common reason for paediatric consultations). Structured workup and management.

Second opinions

Where parents are uncertain about a diagnosis or treatment plan, or where NHS waiting lists are causing delay, Dr Velitchkova provides clear second-opinion consultations with onward referral pathway where needed.

Travel & well-child checks

Travel consultations and advice (without prescribing antimalarials we're not equipped for), well-child checks for school or visa requirements, immunisation history review and catch-up planning.

If you’re booking

What to expect.

Standard appointment

Most consultations are 30–45 minutes for an initial assessment, shorter for follow-ups. You’ll be seen in a single appointment, with bloods, ECG or other tests (if needed) usually done on the same visit.

Follow-up

Results from on-site tests are typically back within 24–48 hours via TDL (our laboratory partner). Follow-up consultations are scheduled to discuss results, refine treatment, or make onward referrals. With your consent, we write to your NHS GP so your record stays joined-up.

Onward referrals

Where your case needs a different specialist, Dr Radka refers to a panel of trusted clinicians across London — matched to your specific need. We don’t take commission or referral fees from any external provider.

Insurance & self-pay

The clinic is recognised by major UK private medical insurers including Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, Cigna and WPA. Pre-authorisation is usually required. For self-pay patients, fees are confirmed before any test, procedure or report is started. Full pricing is on our price list.
