Lead spokesperson

Dr Haydar Bolat
Clinical Director & founding GP, MHW Clinic
GMC: Full registration with licence to practise
Qualification: MBBS · MRCGP
Languages: English, Turkish
Speciality: Private general practice, hair transplantation, men’s health, mental health access

Dr Bolat founded MHW Clinic in 2020 with the aim of bringing CQC-regulated private primary and aesthetic care to East London — specifically the diaspora-dense corridor along Whitechapel Road. The clinic now operates 7 days a week, employs a multilingual team of GPs, specialists, mental health practitioners and surgical staff, and treats over 8,000 registered patients across services ranging from same-day GP consultations to hair transplantation, ADHD assessment, ultrasound, and psychological therapy.

He sits on the clinic’s clinical governance team in multiple roles (Registered Manager with CQC, Caldicott Guardian, Safeguarding Lead) and authors and reviews the clinic’s health library content.

What we can credibly comment on

If your story touches one of these areas, we can usually provide informed comment, expert background, or a case study patient (with their consent) within 24 hours.

Private healthcare access in East London

How private primary care interacts with NHS pressures — especially in deprived inner-London communities. Same-day access. Cost pressures. Insurance vs. self-pay trends.

Medical tourism & hair transplantation

Trends in UK patients travelling to Turkey, Hungary and elsewhere. Clinical risks, quality variation, aftercare gaps. The economics of why patients fly. Honest comparison between Istanbul and UK pricing.

ADHD and autism assessment access

Long NHS waits, the rise of private adult ADHD assessment, the “right to choose” route, integrating with primary care. Shared-care challenges. Adult-onset diagnosis.

Diaspora health & language barriers

How language-concordant care affects health outcomes. The role of multilingual clinics in immigrant-heavy boroughs. Cultural sensitivity in mental health and women’s health.

Mental health & 24/7 access

The gap between primary care mental health and crisis services. Private psychological assessment. Children & young people mental health access (under 18 boundaries).

Women’s health & HRT

Menopause care, HRT prescribing, well-woman screening. The gap in NHS provision and how private clinics fill it. Cervical screening for under- and over-screened populations.

Story hooks

Five evergreen angles

If you’re looking for a story we can support with comment, data context, and (where possible) a willing patient or case, here are five we work on regularly.

01

“Why I flew to Istanbul for surgery” — the British medical tourism boom

UK patients travelling abroad for hair transplant, dental, cosmetic and bariatric surgery in record numbers. The economics, the clinical realities, the aftercare gap. We can speak to volumes, risks, and what reputable Turkish clinics actually do well — without bashing either system.

02

The diaspora doctor — healthcare in multilingual London

How language and culture shape who walks into a clinic. The role of multilingual primary care in boroughs like Tower Hamlets where 35%+ of residents speak English as a second language. Mental health access in cultures where it’s still taboo.

03

The ADHD assessment queue — one year, two years, three years

NHS adult ADHD waiting times now exceed three years in some London trusts. The rise of “right to choose” private assessments, the cost variation, the integration challenge with NHS shared-care prescribing. What it’s like for adults still on the waitlist.

04

Mental health crisis at 11pm — what does private care actually offer?

The gap between NHS 111 mental health, A&E, and private psychiatric care. Out-of-hours access. When private mental health works, when it doesn’t. The boundary between private practice and the safety net.

05

HRT and the “perimenopause generation”

Women in their late 30s and 40s seeking HRT, the NHS prescribing inconsistency, the rise of private menopause clinics. Patient frustration, GP knowledge gaps, what works clinically.
